Injectable Pre & Post Care

Dear $(Contact.FirstName),

We are looking forward to seeing you for your upcoming visit in our Medi Spa! Our highly-trained team is looking forward to providing you with an exceptional treatment experience. In order to help you maximize your treatment results and minimize any potential unwanted side effects, we are including a list of treatment instructions to follow for before and after your treatment. Please contact our staff if you have any questions or concerns.

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

  • Avoid the consumption of alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase your risk of a bruise.)
  • If you want to decrease your risk of bruising, avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications for a period of 2 weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve and other NSAID’s have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections. (Do NOT stop taking prescription meds without speaking with your doctor first.)
  • Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Results from the treatment will take approximately 7 to 14 days to appear. It is common to experience bruising and swelling during that time period.
  • Discontinue Retin-A 2 days before until 2 days after treatment.
  • Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash or cold sore in the treatment area.
  • Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.
  • You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
  • If you have a neuromuscular disorder, you must get clearance from your Primary Care Physician to have an injectable treatment.

Post-Treatment Instructions:

  • Do NOT manipulate the treated area for 4 hours following treatment. Avoid hats if they touch the treated area, and avoid facials or massages the day of treatment.
  • Do NOT receive laser treatments, microdermabrasion, or chemical peels the same day as your injections. Ask your provider if you are not sure about the time frame of certain services.
  • It can take approximately 4-14 days for results to be seen. If the desired result is not seen after 2 weeks of your treatment, you may need additional injection treatments. You are charged for the amount of product used. Therefore, you may be charged for product used during any touch up or subsequent appointments.
  • It is normal to see little “bumps” or blebs on the skin immediately after you are injected. They are temporary and usually disappear 15-60 minutes after the treatment. Makeup can be applied as soon as 60 minutes after the treatment.
  • Do NOT ice treatment areas following procedure. Injectable efficacy are temperature dependent and ice may affect outcome.
  • DO immediately utilize the muscle injected for 1 hour after injections. The more activity the patient engages in following treatment the more effective the injectable is.
  • Do wear SPF daily. UV exposure to the treatment areas have a decrease in efficacy and longevity.
  • Exercise does not affect the onset or duration of your injectable treatment.
  • Lying down or bending over following injections will not affect treatment outcome.
