Micropigmentation

If you are seeking permanent makeup treatments to improve skin tone or reduce the need for daily makeup application, micropigmentation treatments may be a good solution. At Renew & Rejuvenate Aesthetic MD Clinics, we can help you refresh, rejuvenate and renew your appearance with micropigmentation. Our office in Savannah offers micropigmentation to the residents of Palm Valley, Jacksonville Beach, Jacksonville and the surrounding areas of Florida.

What is Micropigmentation?

Micropigmentation, also known as permanent makeup or cosmetic tattooing, is a cosmetic technique that deposits pigment into the skin. It is used to create semi-permanent makeup, such as eyeliner, eyebrows, and lip liner. Micropigmentation deposits colored pigments into the epidermis, the top layer of the skin, which means that it can last for years at a time.

What Can Micropigmentation Be Used For?

Micropigmentation can be used for a variety of cosmetic enhancements, particularly for the eyebrows, eyelids, and eyeliner. Common applications include:

  • Eyebrows - Creates fuller, more defined eyebrows
  • Eyeliner - Creates lined eyes without using pencil or liquid liner daily
  • Lip liner and coloring - Defines the edges of the lips and adds color
  • Beauty marks - Creates simulated moles or beauty marks\Scar camouflage - Helps blend scars into the natural skin tone
  • Areola repigmentation - Restores color to the areola after breast surgery

While micropigmentation techniques can be used to camouflage scars, beauty marks, and skin condtions, as well as for areola repigmentation, we may recommend paramedical tattooing instead of micropigmentation for patients interested in these services.

What is the Micropigmentation Treatment Like?

The micropigmentation process is relatively quick and straightforward. A topical anesthetic is usually applied first to minimize discomfort. Our technician will shape and color the desired area, like the eyebrows or lips, using a handheld device equipped with an ultrafine needle. The pigment is deposited under the top layer of skin and results are immediate. Appointments typically last 1-2 hours.

Is There Any Downtime After Micropigmentation?

There is minimal downtime after micropigmentation. There may be some minor redness, swelling, and tenderness for the first 24 hours. The treated area will initially appear brighter and more sharply defined but will soften gradually over 2-3 weeks. During this time, you'll need to keep the treated area clean and dry, avoiding water exposure or direct sunlight. Don't pick at any scabbing or exfoliating skin. Avoid laser treatments, chemical peels, makeup, and facials in that area during the healing period as well. Otherwise, you’ll be able to resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

How Long Does Micropigmentation Last?

Results from micropigmentation generally last 1-3 years before beginning to fade. However, results vary based on the individual's skin type and lifestyle. The pigment fades more quickly for those with very oily skin. Sun exposure can also cause faster fading. To maintain results, many people get touch up appointments every 1-2 years.
